Sudden Flashback: Ladies in Waiting

Ialwaysforget that Emily Mortimer and Kelly Macdonald were Cate Blanchett's right-hand (and left-hand) girls inElizabeth(1998).

(And Daniel Craig was in it,too!)

None of those ladies had to wait long for their careers to blossom...though in the case of Emily & Kelly maybe the careers should've blossomed more spectacularly.Aren't they great?Lovely & Amazing Emily can next be spotted in the comedyOur Idiot Brother(opening in August) and Kelly is playing "The Grey Lady"(aka Helena Ravenclaw) inHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2(opening...well,you know when.)

She's in the next HP?Yay.It's where all great British actors should pop up.

You buried the real stuff: Emily will be in the new Aaron Sorkin show and Kelly will be the voice in Brave!

Here's a quote from an interview with Kelly Macdonald mentioning Elizabeth:
"I love Cate.I'm in awe of Cate.At the time,me and Emily Mortimer were pathetic little wannabes of Cate.We heard that she would go out jogging in the morning,so me and Emily, who were both smoking 40 a day, went too. We'd make it to the second lamppost along from the hotel, wheezing."

I really like Kelly Macdonald and want her to get some good movie roles.I am really sad she doesn't have an Oscar nomination even after her great performances in Gosford Park and No Country for Old Men.I guess she was probably too understated or not showy enough to get attention but she did so much with those roles. Her final scene in No Country alone....just great.

I read somewhere that Kate Winslet got offered the role of Helena Ravenclaw oh HP but her agents just turned it down straight would have been fun to see her doing it,but I guess Kelly may be a better option after all (maybe Kate's too big of a star for such a tiny role)...and now that I think about it,Emily Mortimer could have been a good option...or Emily Blunt...or maybe even Rachel Weisz (she's also a great star, but that ethereal air of hers kinda fits the role,I think)...what do you guys think?

Lily Allen was one of her ladies in waiting as well. How weird is that?I feel like they both deserve a bid juicy breakout role.At least they're both getting steady and respectable work, and with great directors and other talented actors.Which is the most a good actor could ask for,I guess?

But we're talking British character actresses here - their careers have blossomed moderately already and will be blossoming hardcore when they''re well into their 60s,Damed,Oscared and rattling off their Gosford Parks and Mrs Hendersons.
