We Can't Wait #12: Gone Girl

[Editor's Note: We Can't Wait is a weeklong Team Experience series,in which we highlight our top 14 most anticipated films of 2014.Here'sDeborah LipponGone Girl.]

Gone Girl

Loosely based on Gillian Flynn's best selling novel of the same name, the film tells the story of a woman who mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary.

Directed by a modern master of American thrillers,David Fincher, and starring Ben Affleck,Rosamund Pike,Neil Patrick Harris, and Patrick Fugit.

Why We Can't Wait

Plenty of reasons, most of them starting with David Fincher. As with his past three films,he is working off an incredibly popular book.I'm not a Fincher completist, and his movies haven't been uniformly great, but they're always interesting, and they're getting better with each release. He never downplays the complexity of the material and his films are always worth a second look.

Hollywood films often tends to use the same people in the same types of roles. We don't know why,but wedoknow that this cast doesn't look like anyone else's.It feels fresh.Let's set aside the love-him-or-hate-him Affleck, and applaud the presence of former Bond girl Rosamund Pike, enticing inAn Education.Oh,and hey,I've been asking why I don't see more Patrick Fugit fortwelve years.Going by previous collaborations with the director,Trent Reznor's involvement definitely doesn't hurt either.

But We Do Have To Wait

Warner Brothers will distribute the film on October 3rd,which is the same weekend that kickstartedThe Social Network's successful awards season run.

Looking forward to this one.Haven't read the book and I'm not always a fan of Fincher but I have read enough to have a general idea of the story which sound interesting.Additionally I love, love, love Rosamond Pike, she's being wasted by Hollywood so I'm glad to see her in what looks like a decent role before she hides it back to England from underuse.I also like Ben Affleck,I don't see him as Batman but in regular roles he's fine.

If Pike nails this,it's her Oscar-caliber role right there.Amy Dunne is amazing.

Affleck gets slammed so often, but he's actually a decent actor when paired with the right director. It will be interesting to see him in a Fincher movie.

Really looking forward to this one.I like Fincher and the cast.Fincher movies stretch the imagination and I like that.

I think Affleck is bad regardless of project (usually at his worst when he's directed by...Ben Affleck) but Fincher managed to give the illusion Justin Timberlake could act for most of The Social Network.Anything is possible.

More interested in how Rosamund Pike (this is a decade LATE),Neil Patrick Harris, and Tyler Perry fare.

I bet my ass Todd Haynes' "Carol"will pop up somewhere in the top 10 :P

I'm SO excited for this.I loved the book but I'm looking forward to see what they changed because the ending was a real let-down.It would have never crossed my mind to cast Neil Patrick Harris in his role but I'm so looking forward to see what he does with Desi.

And what Jay said - Amy is a perfect Oscar-winner role,I really hope Rosamund lives up to the expectations.I've loved her since Pride & Prejudice,I was so excited when she got the role.

I also feel like cheering when Patrick Fugit finally gets another part. He'd be in the top of my casting wish list for his age group every time.
