"The Last Jedi"Trailer Arrives!

Chrishere.A full trailer forThe Last Jediis finally here! Now before anyone complains about long waits or lack of plot details, allow me to remind that the limited information for the newStar Warsfilms has been refreshing compared to other franchises.Which is good, because now officially starts a likely three month period ofStar Warsinvading conversation and consciousness with relentless vigor.Luckily,it looks like director Rian Johnson has created a thrilling and singular entry into the beloved franchise that even the indifferent can get excited about.

But the thing you will all be lamenting is that we get no glimpse of Laura Dern's mauve-haired Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo.I'll give you a moment to let out that frustration before we dive in to the trailer.Inhale.Vent.Exhale.Very good.Shall we begin?

No need to give this one a Yes No Maybe So treatment, because we've already bought our tickets!Take a look at the trailer (if you haven't devoured it a dozen times already) and I'll give some ecstatic notesafter the jump...

Well, first thing's first (with this first image): these shots are stunning and distinct for the entire series. Those red flourishes everywhere, the fire and ice color palate, etc. This was shot on 35MM by Johnson's usual cinematographer Steve Yedlin, who might be heading towards his first Oscar nomination.

Rey in training, already making for some formiddable imagery.Already we're hearing a lot about Rey's raw talent and ability, which reminds a lot of Daisy Ridley's debut inThe Force Awakens.

Most of the glimpses we get of Luke in this trailer he seems pretty scared shitless - which is a major shift from the scary/stoic vision we were presented with in the teaser.Does that mean it's nothethat is tempted to the Dark Side? And knowing the screen history of Jedi with raw abilities...uh oh...

I don't think we're emotionally prepared to see her last screen performance.I miss her so much.Pleasepleaseplease send her off as she deserves.

"Kylo Ren.In the makeover challenge, you really just scratched the surface of your look. You're safe."

"YAAAAAAS!"I don't care about your dissent,I'm already obsessed with the porgs.

I'm so happy Rian Johnson clearly knows how much we just need to look at Internet Boyfriend's face a whole bunch. And it looks like this time we'll be getting more of him than his space boyfriend Finn, who just so happens... get the fancy outfit upgrade, which feels correct. No word on how quickly he is inevitably awoken from hisForcecoma, but I'm worried it will be late in the film considering how little we see of him here.He looks to be battling his former fellow Stormtroopers - particularly chrome Captain Phasma.

These images just nail it.Character iconography, production design that complements costume design, scale and intimacy.Simply breathtaking.

I think our snideness about Snoke can be put to rest now. This shot of the now non-hologram villain made me jump out of my skin.I'll be curious to see what people make of Andy Serkis here,as well, since it seems his contribution was quickly overlooked onThe Force Awakens.

Rey tempted to the dark side?!I am choosing to believe that the next shot in the film is Rey screaming "NEVER!"before lightsabering off Kylo's hand for series symmetry. And maybe just to comfort myself against notions that one of our newest and brightest heroes could go bad so quickly.

We'll find out whenThe Last Jediarrives on December 15!

Casting Daisy is one of the best things they did. She's so good as Rey and you don't need an already established star for something like this.Remember that when another movie star gives a blah performance or phones it in - they coulda got someone much better for much cheaper

It needs a few more shots of Issac's face (because honestly that FACE),and a couple of shots of THE DERN (because honestly THAT FACE) but otherwise good trailer!

Can I give a big "NO"to not the movie itself, but the insufferable hype that I am going to have to endure for the next three months? And that's about 20% coming from the studio, and the other 80% coming from rabid fans who think this is bigger than The Second Coming or Obama returning to the White House.

Perspective, people, perspective.(Well, until it is Oscar Nomination Day,anyway - that's the only day of the year we can all go slobbery at the mouth,of course.)

The trailer looks great and I have high hopes of Johnson. He doesn't have to reboot anything and he insists he was given a lot of creative control so ...I'm expecting something a little more surprising,a little more complex.

Snoke was rubbish in TFA,not scary at all.I assume they took the widespread criticism on board because he looks so much better here as a non hologram.

I have no idea what they're going to do with Carrie. Are they killing her off or will JJ have to tackle that?It will be emotional seeing her either way, especially since the next film was supposed to have more of a focus on her.

I get the feeling there is a lot of misdirection in the trailer, which is fine by me.I'd rather not be spoiled.I mean,I assume Kylo is going to redeem himself rather than become the big baddie of the trilogy but I'm not sure,it's just a guess.I also assume based on the sexual tension/chemistry in TFA that Rey and Kylo will get together eventually (apparently this makes me,ahem,a Reylo) but again I'm not sure.I could be completely wrong about everything!

It's going to be a long two months that's for sure ...

Oh and Laura Dern but also no Kelly Marie Tran and no Benicia del Toro. They're holding back a lot considering the film is 2.5 hours.

so is this one is a blatant ripoff of homage tothe empire strikes back..?

"Let the past die.Kill it if you have to."Weird coincidence, that was my exact review of "Rogue One".

I haven't seen the movie but I don't care,I'm already campaigning for a Supporting Actress nomination for Carrie.

I actually think both the Kylo/Carrie ship moments and the Kylo/Rey hand scene are not close-ups from the same scene.

In fact,I'm certain Kylo is actually offering his hand to Luke instead.

Also bummed that Benicio del Toro didn't show up in the trailer either =/
