Stages of Grief: "Difficult People"

By Spencer Coile

After three hilarious seasons,Hulu has cancelledDifficult People.

The show starred Julie Klausner (also its creator) and Billy Eichner as best friends who will stop at nothing to become famous. We covered the show'sthird season-- the non-stop jokes, the banter, and the beating heart underneath all of the cynicism.Needless to say, this news has been shocking for many of us here and will continue to sting months after...

What makes this cancellation especially maddening is,for three years,Billy and Julie offered biting commentary on fame,on relationships, and on Kevin Spacey.

In show that was so unrealistic and outlandish, there was something authentically human and real to the friendship between the show's two leads.A relationship like Julie and Billy's was wholly refreshing and vivacious, particularly considering the social and political climate we are currently living in.They were never afraid to make their audience squirm or laugh uproariously at their own expense.

It is a devastating time for many. Please grieve or share comments on how you will cope below.

I never liked it.I thought they were both complete assholes. What's funny about stupid people making stupid moves?

Sad!;(

Ugh.So sad.Such a great comedic perspective is now gone. And just when they brought on a love interest for Billy AND that love interest was John Cho!

I will be forever grateful to the show for introducing me to Cole Escola, and for giving me all that wonderful virtual bonding time with Andrea Martin.

I loved the first two seasons but I thought the last season was weak.it felt like their success was starting to poison the well - I really started only liking the scenes starring the supporting characters. That said if they want to make a spin-off starring Andrea Martin and Cole Escola I am THERE

It's no small wonder we even got this show at all.It felt so pitched to such a niche audience,it was amazing. It was so full of jokes and references that are tossed around in my social circle. It's kind of hard imagining anyone who isn't in a group of gay New Yorkers in entertainment really getting it.
But also: the women they got as guest and supporting roles! It was a who's who of weirdo divas, from Amy Sedaris to Jackie Hoffman.

I used to love it but that Woody Allen episode really soured me on them...at least for a while.I still love Klausner and will watch whatever she does next

Another show the gays failed to worship like they do Beyonce. What a shame. It was consistently the funniest show on TV - i mean, actual return on investment on time spent and laughs made.

I loved the show and it had great guests too.Amy Sedaris,Deborah Harry,Kate Pierson...
