"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

Mia Wasikowska is "Piercing"

Murtadahere. With her duties asAliceover,Mia Wasikowska is turning to smaller indies.Announced this week isPiercing,a psychological thriller from director Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother).Wasikowska plays a prostitute who tassles with a family man client intent on murder. That part is played byGirlsand James Whitestar,Christopher Abbott. This film is so indie it flew under the radar while it was in production. The announcement mentions that it is already completed. Also complete is her other indieDamselin which she reunites with herMaps to the Starsco-star Robert Pattinson.Directed by David Zellner (Kumiko the Treasure Hunter),little is known about the plot except that it's a period western.

When Wasikowska appeared on thecover of the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue 4 years ago, alongside Rooney Mara,Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain,we thought she'd be the one to nab the most Oscar nominations from the quartet.Yet here we are and she has yet to get her first. It's funny how these things work.We are glad to see her working with up and coming promising directors and in what sounds on paper to be challenging work.

To these eyes, her best performance remainsJane Eyre(2011).We return time and time again to this clip.Watch Jane's spirit shine as she asserts her strength and her right to love.Mia mesmerizes.

It's Oscar month,so for which performance do you think Wasikowska should've been nominated?

Loved her (and the rest of the cast...) inThe Kids Are All Right. So much vulnerability -- especially in her scene with Annette when she comes home drunk from the party.Would love to see the two of them work together again in the future!

Murtada: I haven't thought she's been anywhere even CLOSE to nomination level yet.The closest I'd say is her supporting role in Only Lovers Left Alive.

I think she should have gotten in for Jane Eyre.Wonderful performance in one of the best Austen adaptations to date.

I'd argue for a Stoker nomination, but I'm fully aware that the film did not resonate at all with American audiences or critics.

Supporting for "Only Lovers Left Alive"and "Maps to the Stars".
Lead for "Crimson Peak".

She is so good but yeah nothing close to nomination yet.
Debicki seems to be stealing her thunder now,but she is still mesmerising, including in Crimson Peak last year!

Soooooo good in In Treatment, and has definitely been really great in lots of projects since (Jane Eyre,Tracks) She does always seems to make interesting choices when looking back over her filmography. She's a bit like Carey Mulligan,in the sense that she's kind of above criticism, and when you think about her,you think 'oh yeah, she's really good'.But she doesn't stir up enough excitement or passion,so she just flies under the radar a bit.

Beast Actress nomination: Jane Eyre
Best Supporting Actress nomination: The Kids Are Alright

She's undoubtedly a wonderful actress.

That clip was amazing!Go MIA!Need to find this one ASAP!And Fassy! How about that?

@Robert G.: This isn't a Jane Austen adaptation."Jane Eyre"was written by Charlotte Brontë.:-)

As if Mia hasn't done bunch if indies between the Alice films.

Who is we?

February 10,2017 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

Reynolds, you're absolutely correct. The snow and constant chatter of don't want to be here high school students have rattled my brain.

Yes,I meant Bronte adaptation.

ThatJane Eyreadaptation was stunning.Time for a rewatch.

I'd only nominate her for JANE EYRE but only because 2010 supporting actress was so stacked.I'm sure she'll be nomination-worthy many times in her career

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterShane

Tracks is her best work.Only Lovers Left Alive and Jane Eyre being close runners up.

I like her as an actress. Her performances are always internalized.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJordan

Love this actress.Have only seen her in Jane Eyre and Maps to the Stars.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterMax

She was Oscar worthy for both The Kids Are All Right and (especially) Jane Eyre.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterBVR

I love her.She was sublime in Jane Eyre and Stoker. And brillant in The Kids Are Alrght and Maps To The Stars

February 10,2017 | Unregistered Commenterferdi

She was nomination worthy in Only Lovers Left Alive.Stole every scene she was in.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterMatt St.Clair

Emmy-worthy,sure,for In Treatment. But not Oscar-worthy so far.Keep waiting for her to amaze in movies -- I believe she will yet.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJames from Ames

She should've gotten nominated forStokerandJane Eyrewhile I also think her work inCrimson Peakis very underrated.

February 10,2017 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

None of them.She is terrible.

February 11,2017 | Unregistered Commenterchoog

She's excellent in JANE EYRE and TRACKS especially. But her directing is perhaps even more impressive.I'll be intrigued to see what she does with a feature should she ever go there after her entries in the omnibus films THE TURNING and MADLY.

I didn't like THE EYES OF MY MOTHER at all, sadly. But at least she's using that ALICE money wisely and making interesting, super niche movies that she wants to do.It's the most we can ask for out of such a situation.

February 11,2017 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn Dunks

She's not that good of an actress tbh...

I figured Chastain would be the Oscar champ by now,and yet she "only"has two nominations (same count and type as Mara).Wasikowska still has bright future ahead of her though,me thinks. But looking back:

Who wins an Oscar first?Lawrence!
Who becomes a TV star by 2017?Marling,apparently,and Woodley *otra vez* (Big Little Lies!)
Who from the inside gatefolds becomes a bigger star than most of the front cover girls?None, curiously enough
Who are you pissed didn't make the cover and who should they replace?I would've loved to have seen Nicole Beharie, who was excellent in Shame, while Oduye should have a MUCH bigger career after Pariah
