It's been a long week already,so how about some eye candy? And once you've finished ogling this marvelous photograph of breakout talent and great beauty Trevante Rhodes,be sure to readOUT Magazine's cover story onMoonlightand its influences, production history, and perspective on black culture and identity - guided by the voices of director Barry Jenkins,playwright/co-screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney, and Rhodes.

Here's an idea: let's never stop talking about how brilliant a debut Rhodes delivered in this film until he receives his first Oscar nomination.

Lawd.Trevante is so attractive, charming, and talented. He has everything it takes to become a star.Make him happen,Hollywood!

He was the MVP of Moonlight for me,I really wish he received more recognition for his performance.

Mahershala Ali is excellent in Moonlight but I came away from the film thinking a: Trevante Rhodes is my boyfriend forever (the husband is fine with this) and b: how the fuck does anybody rank the year's best performances in either male category and not put Rhodes on top?

Both he and Andre Holland packed so much detail and feeling with such astonishing subtlety and naturalism. How did every single critics body fail to pick up on this? Were the two of them a bit too gay or something?

I actually found a lot of the film unexpectedly shaky - especially the middle section and its noticeably and uniformly inexperienced/under-rehearsed teen cast.I spent that whole middle third busting to throw things at the screen and shout 'overrated!'

But then Holland and especially Rhodes turn up and somehow manage to lift not just their own section but retrospectively everything that preceded it as well to a whole infinitely higher level. They fill in and synthesise all the details and nuances that were missing from the earlier sections both with a sense of entire lives lived as well as a complete focus and commitment to being in the moment. It's incredibly agile, hypnotic, deeply moving and amazing, amazing work.Screw you all, awards voting bodies!

I hope to see both of these men in many more movies to come.

He was easily my favorite part of the film and I looooved the film.I really hope Hollywood does right by him.Can we please have a sexy romantic drama/thriller/SOMETHING with him and Lupita, who's beauty and talent is also currently underutilized?

This guy is awesome sauce. In his segment of MOONLIGHT,my first impression was "wow,he doesn't look or act ANYTHING like his teen self."But I love how,as he goes on and makes contact with Holland's character, those outer, hardened layers just sort of peel away (along with that grill, heh) and you see the aching vulnerability underneath and the connection back to the kid we saw growing up so painfully. It's an exceptionally subtle and moving performance and seems to have been somewhat overlooked.

Second everyone's comments,Ali was fine but totally overpraised a bit like Williams in MBTS,Rhodes would be lifting the trophy in my Oscar world.

While the shot of his abs took me out the movie for a bit,he totally got MVP for me with how his distinct "Black"persona totally melted away and he became shy little Chiron all over again.

I still feel denied by that ending though.

I love the cast from Hidden Figures, but let's face's ridiculous they won in front of "Moonlight"'s.

Part of me wants to suggest that Ali became the default because his character is straight. My favourites were Rhodes and Holland, their duet a perfect way to end the film.

Great cover and he was fantastic in the movie

Part of me wants to suggest that Ali became the default because his character is straight.

He represents normality and stability despite his illegal occupation. Also, showing white audiences a softer side of the big black criminal stereotype.

He is the American Idris Elba.

Wait,I thought Idris Elba was the British Mahershala Ali...

I was really hoping he'd score a surprise nod but I'm willing to settle for a big successful career for him after this award hoopla is done.

I saw Moonlight yesterday.I liked it a lot and I think Rhodes is great in it.

February 3,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

I really don't think Mahershala got all the attention because he was the straight character.I think people felt weird giving one actor attention for a character that was played in the movie by three different people. And confusion between supporting actor/lead character stuff.
