This podcast is the palate cleanser I needed after reading THR's 'Brutally Honest Oscar Ballot' interview. So infuriating.Long live The Film Experience!亚博主页

Last year's song nominees were a rather sad lot,and the winner is pretty embarrassing. This year's losers wipe the floor with that lesser,anti-dynamic Bond theme.

fun podcast, you guys!always a good time hearing your discourse.

i'm still a BOO on denzel washington put him in the company of daniel day-lewis and jack nicholson is absolutely preposterous in my opinion, but it looks like it's headed that feeling with his performance in fences is that if you like a Lot of Acting in Your Acting, then he's your guy.i just wish he would listen to other actors in his scenes instead of doing what he wants to do regardless of what anybody else is bums me out.

enjoyed listening to all your thoughts and insights.happy oscar night!

Matthew McConaughey has a competitive Oscar.Glenn Close does not.Jackie Chan has an honorary Oscar.Glenn Close does not.Doubtful anyone can argue with a straight face the three or more club is too precious for Denzel Washington to be a member of.Especially when he easily eclipses the acting talents of Walter Brennan (3/4) and Katharine Hepburn (4/12).If he wins this Sunday his record will match Ingrid Bergman (3/7).

Bergman,Nicholson, and Streep (2 Lead,1 Supporting).I think Denzel Washington has more than earned his seat at the table.

Eric,I follow you.

I'm rooting for the AMPAS to finally take notice of this people and start seriously thinking about Honorary Oscars...亚博主页

- John Carpenter
- Frank Oz
- Tim Curry
- The Monty Python (1 done,5 to go!)

You know,before it's too late.

I dont understand why Denzel is not worthy of a third, for a role this difficult, with a text as dense as this one, that none of his fellow A listers does.He was good enough for the Tonys.Which requires actors to perform live, repeatedly.

Why doesnt he deserve the Oscar?

February 22,2017 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Interesting that Nick thinks that Gosling could win.I wouldn't vote for La La Land in many categories, but I would vote for him.For me,the film's appeal rests with its stars, and Gosling hasn't gotten enough credit for his performance.I'm disappointed that Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell aren't nominated, though.

I loved Simple Song #3 and Manta Ray last year but the rest were bad.

February 22,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoseph

Denzel is the likely winner at this point unless La La Land sweeps. Then Gosling might win on good will for the film. He's good in the film and gets the showy song and dance numbers, plus the piano playing,to elevate the performance.

I'm really hoping How Far I'll Go wins Original Song.City of Stars is the more likely winner since it repeats so much in La La Land and I think it's a far worse song than Audition (Fools Who Dream) or even the not-nominated opening number from the film.

February 22,2017 | Unregistered CommenterRobert G

I never understood the love for "City of Stars,"but since there are only, like, three songs in La La Land,I guess they had to choose one...

Katey's opinions are so refreshing;love her!The other guy is too nit-picky.

Cannot wait to hear Charlie's review of Elle.

February 22,2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

It's possible that MOONLIGHT pulls a SPOTLIGHT and wins just 2 (picture and screenplay only).

And that LA LA LAND pulls a GRAVITY and wins 7 without best picture: director, actress, editing, cinematography, score, song, sound mixing. In this scenario JACKIE gets costumes,ARRIVAL gets production design,HACKSAW gets sound editing,FENCES gets supporting actress and supporting actor goes to LION.

As for best actor,I have no idea who'll win the Casey/Denzel unpopularity contest.I'm still rooting for Ryan Gosling, despite not wanting La La Land to win most of its other categories.

Glad to hear Nathaniel.Nick & Katie all love Moana as much as I do.It's somehow vastly underrated (despite being a huge hit) and to me it deserves all the praise and attention Frozen (a lesser film) got.Zootopia is great and would be a worthy winner but if I were an AMPAS member,I'd cast my vote for Moana in Animated Film and "How Far I'll Go"in original song.I'm sorry for bringing politics into this but Arrival and Moana were the two films I saw almost immediately after the election and I found them emotional moving and therapeutic in that context.

Denzel or Gosling as winners would satisfy me.I've never been DW's biggest fan,but he is a revelation inFences. And why shouldn't he have three Oscars,亚博主页if Sally Field,Hilary Swank,Kevin Spacey and Christoph Waltz have two?

February 22,2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

After two years of messing up,I think Oscar got Best Actor pretty right this year.I would have nominated Garfield for Silence, but let's not quibble. There is something very happy-making about thinking about Ryan winning.Sigh.Denzel and Casey are both peerless. This is a tough one.

February 22,2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

@ brookesboy

Do let's quibble.;-)

February 22,2017 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Paul,I haven't seen Hacksaw--is he bad?

February 22,2017 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

I would be fine with Ryan,Denzel,or Casey winning but am firmly rooting for the latter;that type of internalised anguish is so hard to effectively portray onscreen in a subtle way,and he absolutely crushed it.But it looks like it's gonna be a shoo-in for Denzel;I'd be very surprised if he doesn't win at this point.
