Kidman in Cannes.Part 3.

Church of Kidman pastorJosehere.Last we saw Nicole, she was killing sacred deer and being the toast of Cannes in her custom CK and Dior gowns.I was planning to hold a vigil until another apparition, when suddenly...

There she was gliding across the red carpet looking all effortless and regal. Then it appeared she spotted something that drew her attention.I present you now with...

What do you think these two whispered about? How do they know each other?Do all beautiful divas attract each other like magical asteroids?Who has a stronger gravitational pullforce? We might never know,so let us pray...

Who She Wore:Armani Privé
Which Director She's Trying to Lure:Nicole attended the Cannes 70th Anniversary celebration in a flirty Privé gown with beach hair. Was she planning on dancing the night away at a seaside campfire afterwards? If so,she must clearly be trying to lure Lars Von Trier again and have him write herWashingtonat last.
What Faunia Farley would think of this:"Action is the enemy of thought"

Who She Wore:Alexander McQueen
Which Director She's Trying to Lure:At the photocall forThe BeguiledNicole's tissue-like McQueen made me wonder if she had sewn her dress with the remains of those who dare challenge her power.Clearly she's much too magnanimous for that and her fleshy gown is bait for Clint Eastwood who not only starred in the originalBeguiledbut is one of the few auteurs Nicole hasn't worked with.
What Isabel Archer would think of this:"Why should there be pain then?"

If you've wondered who are the beguiled, the answer is simple:

It's every person who stood in the presence of Nicole at the premiere of the Sofia Coppola film.Judging from the way her co-stars and director look at her,she might be the most enchanting person alive.

Who She Wore:Michael Kors
Which Director She's Trying to Lure:She screams flapper girl and considering Baz Luhrmann usually attends Cannes she might be trying to reunite with him.
What Virginia Woolf would think of this:"I choose not the suffocating anesthetic of the suburbs, but the violent jolt of the Capital."

With this premiere we might not get to see more of Nicole at Cannes, unless of course she picks up an award for one of her performances or the Palme d'Or itself, which she clearly deserves.Which of her looks has been your favorite so far?

Nicole should request that McQueen dress in 30 different colors. The shape and texture is just beyond and it fits her like a glove.

I don't think they were popular, but I liked the Rodarte and the Dior. There have been so many princess and sheer and typical goddess gowns on the red carpet. If you can't try to burst out beyond the boundaries of that in France, where can you?

Hayden -- YES.

Jose -- the crazy thing about the Kors is that it looked twice as good in motion and it already looks pretty damn great.

CK at Sacred Deer premiere was my favourite.

We'll see Nicole tonight at the amfAR gala!

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommentervinceItaly

I think her fashion for Cannes has been rather sedate compared to her Oscar Rupaul's Drag Couture from earlier in the year.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

Dunst looked lovely in that pale blue number.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

Please make that "story in three acts"an ongoing series.Hilarious.

How original.A new post on Nicole Kidman.Ugh.The hair color of her wigs is different from outfit to outfit.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterMarie

Loved them all except for maybe the Versace.Just kinda boring for a day time event.Loved the Dior probably my favorite!!!

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterPatrick

Marie,I have so many questions.

What makes you so certain that Nicole Kidman wears wigs at all?Her hairline is unclockable and very fair hair casts different shades in different types/intensities of light. The real tragedy here is that Nicole appeared in Cannes as a blonde.

If Nicole Kidman does where wigs...who cares?I can't think of anything more becoming of a movie star than traveling with a stable of fabulous hair pieces. It's just a shame that none of her "wigs"are a mass of strawberry ringlets.

When people do wear wigs...why should the color remain consistent? Why do you demand gritty realism from wigs.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterHayden

Nicole is almost bald so all of these are wigs.I don't care if she wears wigs, since her face is not really hers anymore.

*sigh* another whiny troll making shit up and unable to give credit where credit is due.The Nicole Kidman shit fest is one of my least favorite shit fests because it's based on absolutely nothing resembling facts and logic.Obviously one can think she's not a very good actress and as much as I love her I do think it's arguable that she's more of an intuitive actress than a technically proficient one.But she takes risks, makes films with niche directors and even a few that are largely untested, and is always trying new things.I literally cannot think of a single current film celebrity whose career trajectory has been even remotely similar for anywhere near as long (and she's been at the top now for 20 years, longer than almost literally all of her contemporaries). The four cannes projects she has this summer all exemplify this, regardless of how successful the films might be (and as of right now,two out of the three seem to be getting an almost universally positive reception). She's had a lot of failures to be sure but that is due to taking risks,as opposed to making money.

Nicole is classic beauty. How can you not love this woman?

May 25,2017 | Unregistered Commenterthevoid99

Peter

You live in an alternate reality.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterK

Dior -my favorite.....the embroideries were interesting because it looks like grass and moss, lol

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterArminel

I'm finding the Nicole fatigue on these boards to be hilarious. This is a site about actresses, and the man who runs this site is a huge fan.So of COURSE there will be posts about her.And of course you can easily ignore them.If I went to a blog about vegetables and I hated radishes,I would ignore all the posts about radishes. It's pretty freakin' easy to do that.

Nicole is high profile at the moment, and her fans have the right to enjoy it,since she's certainly had a lot of ups and downs. It's been trendy to dump on and discredit her,so why shouldn't her fans be relishing this moment?I'm a fan,and I'm aware that this period of time definitely will not last forever. Also,in a more abstract way,it's really cool to see an (almost) 50-year-old actress enjoy a new career peak.Even if I wasn't a fan,I'd think that was pretty cool.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

I give Nicole credit for being the best paid model. The cat fights she engenders are due to the denial going on.Sure, she's great occasionally but what's under the surface?Lots of projection on her is my thought.First pic looks like Laura Dern.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterTom Ford

In other Kidman news: She's going for the Best Actress Tony y'all.Kidman just confirmed in an interview today that she's bringing her London play Photograph 51 to Broadway when she and Michael Grandage clear their diaries.Possibly 2018?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4543316/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Formidable-Nicole-queen-Cannes.html

Kidman won the Evening Standard Best Actress award and was nominated for Best Actress at the Laurence Olivier awards,so the material and performance are tried and tested.Could be an easy Tony win for Kidman in the Broadway transfer.

With Cate Blanchett being nominated for a Tony this year, and bringing All About Eve to the London stage next year,it feels like there's an unofficial arms race happening between the two greatest Australian actresses of their time to win the biggest prizes on not just film, but stage as well.Blanchett isn't the favorite to win the Tony this year despite her nomination,so Kidman might actually win a Tony before Blanchett if Photograph 51 is staged next season.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered Commenterrhud

The Kidman hate is fascinating.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

I was offered these dresses but said no to personal appearance fees.

May 25,2017 | Unregistered CommenterJessica Chastain

Still fancy the Dior but this Michael Kors dress is stunning. This is what Emma Stone *should've* worn to pick up her Oscar.

@Joe - I love radishes.

May 26,2017 | Unregistered CommenterMareko

She does look like Laura Dern with that odd belted number.Welcome to Pottery Barn,Santa Monica.

May 26,2017 | Unregistered CommenterEva

K: everything I said was basically objective.Like her or not but some things aren't just opinions.

May 26,2017 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Tom Ford, even if believed that river true (which I don't) that still doesn't invalidate my above comment. She takes risks than most a list celebrities and has worked with a much wider range of film makers than her contemporaries. No one has to like her movies and if you feel theres not much underneath, good for you.But the names on her resume speak for themselves.Regardless of what's on the screen, she's clearly trying to do something other than Hollywood junk and the relative success of the results doesn't change that.

May 26,2017 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Did she win something?
