Aint that just the truth?I think tweet above is a very important thought that all critics and audience members and awards voters should keep in mind every damn year. And it works whether or not a movie is any good.A lot of people don't like these two movies mentioned above but it's even true of great great movies, perceived and received differently depending on the release dates. It's a real shame.
After the jump tweets on making movies "for the fans,"ascendant gay icon must-haves,"Shallow"ear worm,Ruth E Carter's destiny, and a few leftover Oscar tweets...

And we'll close with that stunning flashback from Ruth E Carter!Look at that.Baby Ruth wearing an Oscars sweatshirt before all her tremendous costume work got to the screen!亚博主页

The differences in the first tweet is critics largely like one film and not the other.I don't think they have any stake in bringing down a film for being released at the wrong time.

LOL Close fans are as ham as her,I love it!If you feel robbed there will be justice for Close and Norma Desmond soon enough. Two birds, one stone.

I say this genuinely: tweets are bad.Twitter is an awful thing.Even a good point is a bad thing.

Contemporary comedies don't win Best Picture. We've had one this century (Birdman),and it appealed to voters for its technical prowess and its show business angle.

People find odd comfort in period pieces. It always seems so difficult for a contemporary story to win the top Oscars.亚博主页Green Book was well-liked because it told a tale of racism that occurred 50+ years ago,and we can pretend we live in an enlightened age where such things no longer exist.

re: first tweet: I dont agree.release dates do not impact reviews.the tomato score just shows critics liked one movie over the other.

release date can impact awards amd top ten lists but not so much reviews plentybof movirs released earlier in the year get great reviews.

March 2,2019 | Unregistered Commenteranonny

I don't agree that perceptions were affected by release dates.Except that they dumped The Upside in January.Because the movie stinks.

March 2,2019 | Unregistered Commenterd

If a film is released early in the year it might be forgotten by award season."these two movies boast a very similar premise, are pitched to the same audience, and are equally dismissive of the communities they claim to represent."What movie did he see?The only similarity between both films is how an odd couple friendship develops over time. You mean the Italian Americans were upset because all they do is eat?

March 2,2019 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

It may be aimed at a similar audience, but The Upside has nowhere near the humor of Green Book. Moreover,we all know that the "thumbs-up,thumbs-down"nature of Rotten Tomatoes scores fails to account for the degree to which audiences enjoy a film.

Take a nice bath Nathanial, maybe a self care day.Award season has burnt you out.We need you back with nuance and a critical eye.Reductive and sensationalist are dime a dozen, thefilmexperience is better than that.

Lil Sheba -- hmmm.reductive and sensationalist?Which part of this post is that.haha.I'm just sharing tweets like I do year round that I think are interesting or funny.

but yes a self care day I deserve.

I generally am not a fan of the hivemind that takes place on Twitter during awards season,so I'm glad it's over.

Every single mediocre actors are pretending they like Othiefia Stoleman just cause she just robbed an Oscar

March 2,2019 | Unregistered CommenterCraver

All of those Glenn Close fans whining about how she was robbed...AW BOO-FUCKIN'-HOO!!!!

March 2,2019 | Unregistered Commenterthevoid99

Right? If she had won,I believe her victory would've registered in history as a regressive choice alongside Green Book

March 2,2019 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

Plus she's got a freebie card for one lead actress Oscar beginning to take shape.

Do people understand the definition of theft?Talk to Jodie Foster circa 1988 and leave Olivia Colman the fuck alone already.Jesus.

March 3,2019 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

MJ -- agreed.Olivia Colman is great in The Favourite. That 1988 win by Jodie Foster is classic "fresh young starlet hollywood is obsessed with at the moment"winning that has cost a lot of great older actresses giving much better performances the win.See also: Jennifer Lawrence over Emmanuelle Riva in 2012.The reverse almost never happens but it did of course to my beloved Pfeiffer in 1989.*cries*
