Beauty vs Beast: Say it With Streep

Jason Adams fromMNPPhere with our fourth and final LGBT themed "Beauty vs Beast"poll of this year's Gay Pride Month, and what happier -- dare I say gayer -- coincidence could we stumble into than a rainbow bright overlap with the 70th birthday celebration of our queen, all hail,Meryl Streep.Yes it was this past Saturday, but this is the sort of thing that should also get its own month,ya know? For our purposes we turn our eyes to Meryls two explicitly queer roles, that of the wife-turned-lesbian-turned-author Jill inManhattanand that of the party-tossing Janney-kissing Clarissa inThe Hours.

PREVIOUSLYY'all killed Eve,but just barely, withlast week'sKilling Evepoll, giving it voer to Jodie Comer's turn as the villanous Villanelle with just 52% of the vote.SaidDancin' Dan:

"Look,I LOVE Sandra Oh and I LOVE her performance as Eve...but Jodie Comer's Villanelle just steals the show.I love the little smile she gets whenever she's about to go into assassin mode and kill somebody. She just enjoys what she does, and enjoys the lifestyle it has allowed her to live. She's an icon."

The Hours performance is so underrated.Best in Show for that film.

I'll never understand how Streep's performance in The Hours did not get her an Oscar nomination.Definitely worthy.

I'd def have to go with Clarissa - after all,she went through all the trouble to buy the flowers herself, right?Plus Jill is way too in love with her (admittedly gorgeous) hair for me to take too seriously.Clarissa wins,no contest.

Clarissa partnered up with Allison Janney;Jill with Woody Allen.Clarissa wins.

June 24,2019 | Unregistered CommenterBiggs

I voted for Clarissa only because she has a bigger role, and Jill can take care of herself.

June 24,2019 | Unregistered CommenterFaye

I voted for Jill because I got so much from Clarissa in The Hours already but I'd really love a whole movie about Jill. One of my all time fav bit part performances.

I voted for Jill because I love the hair and the anger.

Threateningly #TeamJill on this one.Hers was an honest account of their break-up,after all.

Where is Meryl Streep's post honoring her 70th birthday????

June 24,2019 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

Jill -- for being the immoral, psychotic, promiscuous one and still being superior to her ex in every conceivable way.

June 24,2019 | Unregistered CommenterHoneybee

Not a fan of Streep and never will - not my kind of actress.I prefer those who "are"instead of those who "play"and in Manhattan she is Jill. She's absolutely credible.Woody reached the "documentary effect"he was looking for.And Manhattan is a masterpiece. And Manhattan has one of the best or maybe the best "find-a-future-movie-star-in-the-beginning-of-career".

June 25,2019 | Unregistered CommenterMelchiades

Curiously, for all her 22 noms,Meryl was nev once nom in both categories in the same yr.

I believe she came closest to scoring a double nom in 2002.She was probably the 6th place in the best actress race.

I voted for Jill!

see that Louis Waters is weird

June 25,2019 | Unregistered CommenterBrad

I voted for Jill!

Clarissa can't see that Louis Waters is weird.

June 25,2019 | Unregistered CommenterBrad

Jill just simply does not give a fuck at that point in her life.I wish I was like that.I'm sadly more like Woody Allen's character.Clarissa is too dramatic, even if she has reasons to be.Jill all the way.

For those commenting on Streep's failure to score an Oscar nom for The Hours,I can offer a bit of trivia I've never forgotten -- her agent,or whoever, forget to submit her for The Hours that year.It was a minor scandal that she was only up for Adaptation/supporting.She somehow carried on,though ;)
