Fassbinder double feature

"Great performances in really incredible films by the great genius, Rainer Werner Fassbinder."-Dl

"I find Fassbinder the least accessible by far of all the great filmmakers... Marriage of Maria Braun is his deepest and most devastating film (not just his most 'popular' as it's usually dismissed). "比戈

'The Woman in the Window' delayed again

byMurtada Elfadl

Remember the 2018 Oscars? Amy Adams was nominated forViceand there was a time early in the season when we talked about the possibility of her winning because of the 6 nominations that she had amassed so far. That was of course before the Golden Globes when Regina King won forIf Beale Street Could Talkon her way to the Oscar podium. Even then some said well King isn't nominated for SAG, Adams is bound to win there and start her narrative, Emily Blunt won forA Quiet Place, and at BAFTA Rachel Weisz won forThe Favourite. Then we all looked at what’s next for Amy. For sure that would be her Oscar vehicle. Adams has given many great performances and is an actress who deserves to have an Oscar on her mantle.

The Woman in the Windowwas next...

Prestige director: ✅
Best selling novel: ✅
Adapted by a renowned Pulitzer prize winning playwright and respected actor: ✅
She plays the titular character: ✅

Supported by previous Oscar winners and nominees: ✅

Premium fall release date: ✅

The film isdirected by Joe Wright and co-starring Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore and Jennifer Jason Leigh and adapted for the screen by Tracy Letts. The story is a mashup ofGone Girl andRear Window, with Adams playing an agoraphobic, alcoholic developmental psychologist who befriends her new across-the-street neighbor, played by Moore. Or so she thought. Something is not right. Check out the trailer.

We were all set for this to be Adams’ Oscar vehicle, then the problems began.

The New Yorker revealed that Daniel Mallory, who wrote the novel under the pseudonym A.J. Finn had spent years lying to colleagues in the publishing industry. Then there were rumours that test screening audiences were confused. The studio behind the film, Fox 2000, was shuttered in the fallout from the Disney - Fox merger. Disney moved the film from its October 2019 slot and ordered a retooling with re-shoots. The movie was re-scheduled for May 2020. But with all that is happening in the world right now, that date is not possible for release anymore. Today it was announced thatThe Woman in the Windowhas been delayed indefinitely. Obviously this latest delay does not reflect on the quality of the film as most cinemas across the world are closed.

All eyes now onHillbilly Elegyfor Adams' possible awards run.

Adams hasjoined instagramyesterday in the lovely and wholesome way you'd expect from her.Have you followed her yet and are you looking forward toThe Woman in the Window?

Murtada it's Jennifer Jason Leigh,The trailer was pretty awful.I didn't even like Gone Girl that much, best release it now on demand best way to get people to see it.

The trailer make this film look more like a high profile guilty pleasure than an awards vehicle, frankly (and it didn't seem a classic Oscar bait in the classic sense). As much as I'm looking forward to this film anyway, I think Amy would have much bigger chances to be in the awards race with Hillbilly Elegy (and her dream ticket with Glenn Close is pure actressexual material).

我记得它得到了后期制作过程中围绕延迟第一次作为电影本来是要通过特伦特·雷泽诺和NIN的阿提卡斯罗斯但得到了有利于更多的东西传统报废进行评分。现在,已经打到现在冠状病毒Black Widow.

This book was one of my favorites, not easy to put down (like Gone Girl And The Girl on the Train). And enjoyed both books and movie versions. I can’t wait to see this movie, I’ll see it whenever it’s released.

This look likes a bit too familiar- "Rear Window" and "Night Watch"

I think the book is both bad and cynically written, but it’s hard to deny that cast (and I like Joe Wright a lot too, it would be weird if it was a ‘Director for hire’ scenario). Maybe we’ll get another Girl on the Train scenario, ie a film that isn’t good enough for the performance that carries it.

This isn't her Oscar vehicle but a generic commercial play. I don't understand the resistance to giving her an overdue win for Vice. Supporting Actress is her Oscar legacy. She won't ever be that girl in Best Actress where she's undeniable. Besides an overdue win in Supporting would only piss off her online cult followers.

I've read the book; this role was never going to win her the Oscar (genre bias).

Why does it have the same title as the classic Fritz Lang film? Now THAT'S confusing!

March 18, 2020 |Unregistered CommenterJonathan

People are saying it can't be any good because the novel isn't any good. Has anyone tried to read PSYCHO. Bad novels often make great films. Moravia's LE MEPRIS is another example among many.

C’mon Blue Sky style win. Sit on that shelf until the time is right!

Amy and Glenn winning at the same ceremony will be cool though.

Indeed, only Thelma Ritter has more BSA Oscar nomination ( 6 ). So we can call Amy Adams the Queen of Supporting Actresses.
