111 days 'til Oscar

Can you believe Germany's WINGS OF DESIRE (1987) was not nominated for Best Foreign Film?It won numerous prizes that year but Oscar skipped it.

According to numerologists 111 is a very powerful number, sometimes called an "angel number"for spiritual guidance. It signifies that a gate of opportunity is opening -- your dreams can become manifest with positive thinking.(Or some such.Don't ask me I'm not a numerologist.I'm just trying to find cute ways to count down to Oscar, okay?)

In other words those current long shot Oscar campaigns need to be harnessing all their positive thinking on this very day!So tell usyour#1 dream for Oscar night this coming March 4th.What reality shall you will into being,nomination-wise or statue win?You know mine already.

1989 Look Back: The Last Films of Two Hollywood Legends

Hollywood in 1989 was a far different place than it was in the studio system heyday of the 30s through the 50s.The Old Hollywood glamour that made stars like Bette Davis and Audrey Hepburn once shine bright seemed like a distant memory compared to such blatantly sexual films asSex,Lies, and Videotape.Trying to imagine Davis' Margo Channing or Hepburn's Holly Golightly appearing alongside the neon prints and leg warmers of the 80's is ludicrous.Except that both of these legendary Best Actresses happened to still be making films in 1989,decades after they had first achieved stardom.Sadly,1989 would be the last year that both actresses would appear again on the big screen and what's worse, neither of their films (Wicked StepmotherandAlways) would contribute much to their cinematic legacy.

Hit Me With Your Best Shot: "Barbarella"

Barbarella comes from the 41stcentury so theoretically she knows a thing or to.Perhaps she can tell me from the future how to choose a best shot from her infamous movie?Though I'd seen at least some ofBarbarellabefore – I've never forgotten the hilarious space-burlesque title sequence -- now I've seenallof Barbarella. In both senses.

There's certainly a lot to look at but I've rarely been more stumped with this series...more
