"I love this film madly and i agree that this is the best musical scene of the movie.More than a queer film it is a story about the internal travel in life of a person --the kind of stories that thrills me most."-César

CONSIDER - Actresses of 2019,First Half

Here's our penultimate 'halfway mark, year in review' post for you.The19 performances by actresses we treasured most at the moviesthus farthis year.

We hope you'll sound off on these and share your own favourites in the comments...and we hope this list serves as a reminder to Oscar and Globe and SAG voters to keep lists of things that impress you all year so that at the end of the year you aren't just voting for the 5 things youjustsaw. Before we begin I should note that I sadly missed the three following female-led films and will catch up with them when given the chance later in the year:Her Smell,Little, andThe Souvenir.Okay here we go...

(Jan 1st - June 28th releases)

Jessie Buckley as "Rose-Lynn"inWild Rose
Yes,the movie basically hands her the "star-making"reviews on a platter. It's ALL about watching her sing and emote. But the performance has lovely nuances,lived-in feeling, and own-worst-enemy fire. And that voice.Good god.

Review: Men in Black International

by Tony Ruggio

Jettisoning all subtext of the original and heart of the third and formerly final movie,Men in Black Internationalis definitely a step-down from the highs of this intermittent,long-running franchise.Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson don't enjoy nearly the same chemistry that sparked inThor Ragnarok, their personalities clashing in a way that can best be described as awkward, and not the good kind with bumbling and sexual tension in tow. It's all so rushed and Thompson's arc leaves something to be desired.

And yet,I couldn't help smiling through half of it...

Beauty vs Beast: Pre Endgame

Jason Adams fromMNPPhere with this week's "Beauty vs Beast"-- a little movie calledAvengers: Endgamewill be hitting a couple of screens this weekend (we count Thursday nights are "the weekend"now in blockbuster world) with the blunt force of a megaton bomb;this time next week it'll be nothing but breathless box office masticating and eulogies for the fallen. So today,in the ever so brief calm before that oblivion, let's look back at last year'sInfinity Warappetizer and face down the great big goof heard round the galaxy -- that time Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) let his emotions get the best of him and let Thanos (Josh Brolin) live to snap another day...

PREVIOUSLYWhile every week is a good week to be Emma Thompson Week last week we made itofficial in honor of her 60th birthday, and the Merchant Ivory character to top them all turned out to be,with 68% of your vote,Margaret fromHoward's End.SaidMarsha Mason:

"Remains of the Dayis the better film imo,but her performance inHowards Endsticks with me a little more."

Beauty vs Beast: Emma Times Two

Jason Adams ofMNPPhere with a brand new edition of our weekly "Beauty vs Beast"poll -- it is the 60th birthday of the great Emma Thompson today! And age thankfully hasn't slowed her down a bit -- she's got several projects in the works (I'm pretty excited about her upcoming series calledYears and YearswithQueer as Folk UKandDr Whowriter Russell T Davies) not to mention I just had a,"Wait, who is that talking...?"moment two days ago when she turned up as the voice of a queenly ape-person in Laika'sMissing Link. But for her birthday let's look back at her two great great great Merchant Ivory roles of the early 90s,because who could I put against Dame Emma Thompson for a true contest other than but Dame Emma Thompson herself.

PREVIOUSLYIt's not easy to beat down Divine but Kathleen Turner managed to do just that withlast week's John Waters poll-- theSerial Momherself, which justcelebrated its 25th anniversarythis weekend, took a full 75% of your vote.Said ?:

"Beverly/Kathleen Turner all the way.Personally I would have given her all the awards for "War of the Roses",but "Serial Mom"was a fun outing for this gifted actress. At least at TFE she is remembered and revered appropriately."
