Who will win the Emmy for Leading Actress in a Drama?

By Spencer Coile

The Leading Actress in a Drama Series category has been an embarrassment of riches this past decade. With previous winners including Glenn Close forDamages,Julianna Margulies forThe Good Wife,Claire Danes forHomeland, and Viola Davis forHow to Get Away with Murder, the Emmy's are giving the gays everything they want.

This year is particularly competitive,an eclectic diverse group of actresses at the top of their game.We have two previous winners, two who only have one last chance to win,one on an HBO blockbuster, and one making history as the first Asian American actress in the category. In a perfect world, they would all be victorious.Yet only one can win...

Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K.Brown Sign Up for Frozen 2

Chrishere. Now thatFrozen's Broadway adaptation was largely met with "meh",fans are all eyes on next year's upcoming sequel. While we have the headling cast of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel returning along with original directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck,we have had nary a detail about what to expect before the film arrives on November 27,2019.But now we have two new exciting additions to the cast, two recent Emmy nomineesThis Is Us' Sterling K.Brown andWestworld's Evan Rachel Wood.

Naturally,we have no details whatsoever on who they will be playing but that need not stop us from speculating.Brown has become something of a steady franchise supporting player, having appeared earlier this year inBlack Pantherand will show up in this year's rehash ofThe Predator. With Santino Fontana's surprise villain Hans out of the picture, could he be a new romantic rival for Anna?Wood's presence however presents an intriguing notion or two - starting with the excitement that she might sing on screen again. The bigger question: could she be the answer to the Give Elsa A Girlfriend petition?

New Mantra: "Miranda July Heist Movie"

Chrishere. If that headline didn't already give you a moment of chrystalline mental clarity, perhaps the fact that it's not just fantasy will. That's right, the multi-hyphenate artist Miranda July will be returning to cinemas for her yet untitled third feature, this time with a genre bent. Those unfamiliar with the indie darling would do well to research her performance art and writing, but her filmography is as good a start as any of her other works. Her first two idiosyncratic films were 2005's whimsically sadMe and You and Everyone We Know("...forever.") and 2011'sThe Future, which was narrated by a stray cat. Both films are touching and deeply original,so don't expect standard heist fare.

But maybe this could be her most mainstream film yet given the enticing cast she's already assembled: Evan Rachel Wood,Debra Winger,Gina Rodriguez, and Richard Jenkins.Wood will play Old Dolio (!),whose scheming parents (Winger and Jenkins) bring an outsider into their major heist plans, with big ramifications for Old Dolio.Expect something oddly moving and unlike anything else released that year.
