AVENGERS ENDGAME- will Oscar honor it?

"Hopefully not.Nothing aboutAvengers: Endgametranscends its genre. In fact,Endgameis that particular genre on steroids.LOTRmanaged to transcend its genre - Best Pic nods + Best Pic win.Harry Potterdidn't - no Best Pic nods. The Academy got it right with these two.Sometimes they get things right. And when it happens,it's a wonderful feeling."-Yavor

"I suspectEndgameis favored to get a Producers Guild nomination but a longshot for the equivalent Academy Award..."-Brevity

FYC: "Hustlers"for Best Costume Design

By Cláudio Alves

The Academy rarely recognizes the greatness of contemporary costume design. They're caught in an endless love affair with period pieces and fantasy extravaganzas.I Am Loveis the last true contemporary-set film (give or takeLa La Land's dreamy vision of Los Angeles) to receive such an honor without any fantastical element and that was almost a decade ago.

This year would be a great time to break with tradition. In fact,no snub in the upcoming Best Costume Design category will hurt as much asHustlers'.Lorene Scafaria's electrifying drama is a luxurious feast of late aughts fashion and purposeful ostentatiousness...

'On the Floor'

...Or,floored,rather.But we wanted to use a JLo song title.

JLowalking the Versace fashion showto celebrate 20 years of THE DRESS that launched Google Images (no really) has to be among the most exciting Oscar campaign moments of recent years alongside events like David Lynch with that cow on the side of the road stumping for Laura Dern.

Not that this is a literal Oscar campaign move but it might as well be,right?

Soundtracking: Hustlers

byChris Feil

"This is a story about control..."

Lorene Scafaria'sHustlersbegins by brilliantly underlining its thesis through the musical vessel of Janet Jackson. The filmisa story about control,of reclaiming it in a workforce that tries to take it from you,and ultimately of losing it.But the film is also about female power and shoving back against an oppressive system, all of this embodied in the pop perfection prowess of Jackson herself.Hustlersmay be the most slamming pop soundtrack of the year, but it's also deployed with similar subtextual wisdom. The hits keep coming, but they also reinforce Scarfaria's examination of feminine defiance with a razor specific period detail.
