Great Moments in Horror Actressing: Margot Kidder

"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

Q&A Part 2: Guilty Pleasures,Boytoys, and Best Animated Feature

Yesterday I  answered reader questions aboutfilm sets worth living in and all time favorite actorsand I hope that conversation keeps going because I haven't heard from too many of you what your choices are. There were so many good question this week let's keep the party going for an extra day. Here's the next six questions featuring Guilty Pleasures,Oscar's Best Animated Feature and Unseen Classics. One question will be answered in a forthcoming theme week that's already been planned and one final question is getting its own post.

You can't say we've been slacking here at TFE.

LADY EDITH: Do you have a favorite Altman?

I do.And it's no contest.I just shoutNashville(1975) as enthusiastically and loudly as I can when asked.Which is not to dismiss the rest of Robert Altman's always at least interesting filmography. My other two favorites areThree Women(1977) forits psychosexual actressingandGosford Park(2001) for the sheer pleasure of it but I love his movies...well,maybe notDr T and the Womenbut I love quite a few of his movies.

JEFF:What's your biggest guilty pleasure movie?Or a movie that most of the readers would be surprised that you happen to love.

After so many years writing online about movies I fear I have no secrets left.I love the usual guilty pleasures and probably talk about them too much (XanaduandShowgirlschief among them).I suppose in terms of things I rarely write about the #1 guilty pleasure would be that I do kind of have a (small) thing for B grade action movies and affection for the sometimes limited actors that star in them like Jean Claude Van Damme,Jason Statham, and Schwarzenegger of course. This is not a blanket genre appreciation;I never was interested if the movie starred Steven Seagal or Sylvester Stallone.I've seenHighlander(1986) with Christopher Lambert several times because my brother and his friends loved it.I lovedUniversal Soldier(1992) for some reason. One truly terrible movie that I used to enjoy with an old friend wasShowdown in Little Tokyo(1991) starring Dolph Lundgren and Brandon Lee.This actually happens in it...

Jack,Finn,Gugu, and More are All Starred Up

Year in Review:The Breakthroughs & Debuts

Though pop culture could probably stand a little less emphasis on the NEW in that endless meat grinder of fame,it happens for a reason: new stars are intoxicatingly shiny things, fresh of face, full of spirit, vivid with hunger for work, and free of the emotional baggage that comes with our longterm pop culture love affairs. They can even surprise you onscreen since they haven't used up all their tricks and haven't been over-worked just yet.

It's impossible to predict anyone's showbiz future -- it's a tough and very weird industry full of luckyandunlucky breaks -- and some new stars each year become quickly forgotten flings. The luckier ones inspire love affairs with the public of varying degrees of passion and the very luckiest of them all settle down with the public for good, till death do us part.

We're still in the dating phase with these actors. So let's have a Beauty Break after the jump. How many of these actors and actresses are you eager to keep seeing?

Some of these performers aren't completely "new"-- some already made a name on TV or in foreign film -- but they had big years overall (I required them to be in a key movie to qualify).Their careers aren't likely to be the same from here.

Review: The Maze Runner

This review originally appeared in an abridged version in Nathaniel's column at Towleroad. It is reprinted here with their permission for your reading pleasure...or displeasure depending on how you feel about The Maze Runner.

Dylan O'Brien stars in Maze Runner

The last thing anyone will ever enjoy aboutThe Maze Runner, should they be so lucky as to enjoy it,is a review describing the finer points of its narrative.Let if suffice to say that Stiles fromTeen Wolfwakes up in a large glade surrounded by a huge stone maze.It is not a metaphor for Dylan O' Brien's navigation of sudden stardom. The only inhabitants of this sealed environment are a group of similarly aged boys, none of whom are frequently shirtless werewolves, dammit.

Why are they there?

Who put them there?

Can they ever escape?

What's different about Dylan O'Brien besides the largest paycheck?

Will there be a sequel?

The movie shall answer all of these questions in 113 minutes! And many more.In factThe Maze Runnerso loves to ask and answer questions, that it does so in literally every scene rivallingInceptionin sheer expository percentages of dialogue uttered.

Since the movie loves to answer, here's 12 more questions if you click to enter the maze
