Great Moments in Horror Actressing: Margot Kidder

"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

Instagram Proof (Debi,Tatiana, Lupita)

Instagram Proof

...that Tatiana Maslany actually IS a clone

...that Lupita Nyong'o can't blend into the background no matter how hard she tries

...that despite Madge's history of shortlived celebrity friendships, she'll always love Debi Mazar

Blowing the lid off: Finally, the proof that @tatianamaslany is in actual fact a clone.

Supporting Actress: Nicole Kidman's Fourth Nomination?

Here's to the thought of Nicole Kidman back in an Oscar lineup - CHEERS!

LionandQueen of Katwewere runner ups toLa La Landfor Toronto's People Choice prize and people were loving on Nicole Kidman and Lupita Nyong'o as warm mothers in those films. With a strange absence of contenders to this point (especially given the comparatively abundant Leading Actress wars) they both move way up the chart. Also shifting on the chart: Felicity Jones,Nina Arianda,Greta Gerwig x 2,Live by Night ladies, and a few drop-offs now that the films have been seen.

In category-fraud-loving Hollywood we have to assume that one of the leading ladies (Best Actress chart is not yet updated) will demote herself to secure a nomination in a weaker field.Viola Davis is a possibility inFences-- in the first Broadway run herFencescharacter was considered "featured"(Tony Award code for "supporting) and in the revival (the one Viola nabbed the Tony for) the same character in the exact same play was considered "lead".But we'll leave her in Best Actress for now because the plethora of her supporting roles aside,we all know Viola Davis is a Leading Lady down to the marrow and it shows in her supersized talent.

See the updated chart.Thoughts?

Red Carpet: TIFF Finally Does Couture

Josehere.Color me impressed with all the couture at Toronto this year!Congrats to stylists forbringing it,and when there are so many great looks to discuss, let's get to it.Amy Adams is the epitome of "if it ain't broke",she has rarely looked sexier than she does in this simple Tom Ford design. Her Rita Hayworth-esque locks and the perfect earrings might just make this her best look in years. No one can pull off as many shades of yellow as Emma Stone as proved by this textured Chanel minidress, which sees her at her most playful.Rooney Mara wearing color warms my heart, especially when it's such bold pieces as this Aouadi bolero dress, knowing the unique design was more than enough, her makeup and accessories are minimal, love that the strappy sandals make it look as if she's floating.Lupita Nyong'o in Carolina Herrera is the thing fashion photographers dream about, gotta love her red lipstick too.Can she do any wrong? The answer is no.

More looks after the jump.

World Elephant Day

Happy World Elephant Day!

"Happy"might, alas,be the wrong word given how pachyderms have been treated in this world, practically always shamefully despite so much evidence of their intense family bonds, good natures (unlessly treated cruelly and then who doesn't lose their temper?) and their other cute qualities we may or may not be anthropomorphizing.Elephants may go extinct in our lifetime (which is unthinkable) sohere are some charitable organizations you should consider supportingif you can that are fighting to save them.

Elephant activists also suggests never supporting the ivory trade which is easy and never going to elephant attractions (I once rode on an elephant as a childbut I didn't know anything about animal cruelty back then) because most of them have taken from their mothers to train them.If you're interested in a good doc on the subject of elephants in captivity -- or rather the ways their captors grapple with the morality of it and how thinking around the topic is changing,I'd suggestOne Lucky Elephant(2011) which is about a circus man giving up the elephant he'd raised and lived with for 16 years. It's both hopeful and sad.

After saying all that it may seem hypocritical to share favorite photos of celebrities with elephants (as these beasts have obviously been trained or been living in captivity) but we aren't perfect and can't resist the combo of movie stars and anything glorious that they happen to pose with.A beauty break with lots more photos after the jump including Lupita Nyong'o,Barbra Stanwyck, and Harrison Ford...

Pajibathis is not the angle of Pajiba's story but as with seemingly all biopic subjects Harriet Tubmann suddenly has two competing biopics in the work: Viola Davis's for HBO and one for theatrical release about which we had previously heard nothing.(Too bad that they can't be fused into one with the best elements of both because good luck finding an actress as famous and as talented and as theoretically bankable  as Viola for the actual theatrical version)

Lenny LetterTony nominee and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o reveals why she chose a small play as Oscar follow up in a great piece. Here's a brief excerpt:

As an actress, feeling connected to a fully realized, complex character is what I look for first. The size of the role, and the budget, and the perceived "buzz"around the project are much less important to me.As an African woman,I am wary of the trap of telling a single story.I decided early on that if I don't feel connected to,excited by,and challenged by the character, the part probably isn't for me.If I'm ever in doubt,I envision the career choices of artists I admire, like Tilda Swinton,Cate Blanchett, and Viola Davis. They are all fearless actresses who approach every role without ego or vanity. They have a fierce commitment to the moment and the role, whether it's the lead or a character we see for just one scene. They give it their all,and it shows. The thought of having a career that in any small way might resemble theirs excites me.

She has good taste in actress heroes!

To Get It Off My Chest
Collidersays the Captain America & Avengers filmmakers, the Russo Bros, are game for an LGBT character in the Marvel-verse and the article praises them accordingly for saying so (sigh).I'm not pinpointing Collider but this is a classic example of something the internet loves: 'filmmakers/actors/authors are forinsert progressive thing!' news (this is also happening a lot withStar Warsof late). But here is the thing: it is NOT news but hypothetical speculation and,as such,we should not be praising anyone.Until Marvel (and other studios) and filmmakers actually show diversity we MUST stop giving them credit for suggesting that they willone dayshow diversity. This is also true of their issues with race.Let's stop congratulating people for hypotheticals and start concentrating on praising filmmakers who already have diversity in their films. It's like everyone praising JK Rowlings for retconning Harry Potter's Dumbledore when she wasn't brave enough to actually have him gay within the books.UNLESS PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY DOING IT,STOP PRAISING THEM FOR SUGGESTING THAT THEY'RE COOL ENOUGH TO DO IT AND THEY MIGHT AT ANY MOMENT.JUST NOT RIGHT NOW

Lupita In Space

Jason fromMNPPhere with today's best movie news -- with #OscarsSoWhite (side-note: I accidentally typed "OscarsSoShite"亚博主页at first,ha!) dominating the movie conversation these past few weeks, and with all eyeballs slowly rightfully side-eyeing over to the studios themselves to see what they're gonna do about it,the number of projects that have been attached toSelmadirector Ava DuVernay has been a heartening development of the past few months,at least. She seems very much in demand. But she also seems very picky (thank goodness) - Marvel'sBlank Panthermovie?Notsomuch!

AnywayTHR is reporting today thatshe's maybe going to direct a sci-fi movie calledIntelligent Life, which Steven Spielberg's producing andJurassic Worldhelmer Colin Trevorrow wrote, and in further "That's a Bingo"news the movie is set to star Oscar winner and baby fashion icon Lupita Nyong'o.YES I WANT THIS ALL OF THIS.

Intelligent Lifeis described as "the story of a low-level worker at the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs who accidentally makes first contact with a beautiful woman from another world."Three guesses who's the "beautiful woman from another world"?And thankfully, according to sources the alien is actually the leading role in the film.Let's just hope that Lupita's exquisite face is good enough, and we don't get anyStar Warsstyle CG cover-up again.I wanna look ather, for goodness' sake.
