Doc Corner: How much has the changing Academy changed the Best Documentary category ?

Among all of the talk happening since the Oscar nominations,a good deal of attention has been paid to the role the new roster of Academy members might have played in what we were given.With good reason,too,considering the nomination list reads rather obviously as the awkward merging of two very different kind of voters.Virtually every category has something for both the old and the new guards – or,at least what we perceive to be the old and the new guards.

Even a category likeBest Sound Editinghas a horror movie and a Mexican domestic drama sitting next to musical biopics and action blockbusters.InBest Makeup and Hairstylingyou'll see standard old/overweight and royalty makeup side-by-side with a curious Scandi whatsit.And doesn't it feel odd to imagine the same acting branch voter notching Sam Rockwell's name forViceand simultaneously selecting Marina de Tavira one category over?The documentary branch is no different.Their 2018 nominees forAPP亚博娱乐 are even more 'new guard,' taking this idea of a shift in identity even further...

Team Experience Awards 2018: Our Favourites

We couldn't let the Oscar season go without our team of writers giving you our 7th annual Team Experience Awards (Nathaniel doesn't vote on these buthis Film Bitch Awardswill resume in a couple of days).We've given ourselves some time to catch up to 2018's offerings and as a result we have some fun surprises in store for our ballot!This year our Best Film goes to Yorgos Lanthimos'The Favourite,one of the six prizes we've given it of thirteen total nominations.Next behind is Barry Jenkins'If Beale Street Could Talkwith nine mentions,and then the love is spread pretty wide elsewhere withRoma,Hereditary,BlacKkKlansman,andCan You Ever Forgive Me?doing well among nominations.
