Great Moments in Horror Actressing: Margot Kidder

"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

"She won a Genie for it - because Canadians have great taste!"-Mike in Canada

Final Predictions: Supporting Actress,Foreign Film, and Sound Categories

by Nathaniel R

Expecting a high nomination count for "First Man"even if it misses Best PictureRunning out of time we are!So here are the final predictions for six more categories!

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
We've been over and over this one in our brains, trying to figure out that fifth spot (we don't believe,as some panicky folks do,that Regina King is in any danger of missing for Beale Street). In the end we're defaulting to Claire Foy inFirst Manwho's been there all along.Primarilybecauseshe's been there all along and these things have a way of sticking if you're considered solidly in for months, even if you start losing steam toward the end of the season. We expectFirst Manto have a high nomination count despite predicting it to miss Best Picture and Claire Foy has remained visible all season.Sorry,Margot Robbie...

OFCS Winners

by Nathaniel R

Mission: Impossible - Fallout was one of only 2 films to win multiple prizes from the OFCS that was not on their top ten list (the other was Black Panther)

The Online Film Critics Society (a couple of TFE's contributors are among their 283 members) have announced their winners for their 22nd annual awards.  Alfonso Cuarón'sRomacontinues its critical dominance by taking 4 prizes including both best foreign film and best film.Other multiple winners includeBlack Panther,Mission: Impossible - Fallout,If Beale Street Could Talk,First Reformed, andHereditary.Four films on their top ten list were shut out of winning any prize:The Favourite,  You Were Never Really Here,Eighth Grade,andSuspiria...five if you count their #2 filmBlacKkKlansmanbut we figure the lifetime achievement award for Spike Lee covers that one.The complete list of winners follows after the jump...

Salim Gives Thanks

Team Experience members were invited to give thanks this week so you'll be hearing from a few of us.Here'sSalim Garami...

What's good?

2018 has proven to be a very busy year for yours truly, hence my radio silence here in The Film Experience (I didn't have much time to write on my own personal blog亚博主页Motorbreath). But it has also proven to be a surprisingly rewarding year for me,both in my personal life after much hassle earlier in the year and run-around later in the year (I have been going back-and-forth between not two but THREE U.S.cities for professional reasons) and in cinema

I think 2018 has been one of the best moviegoing years I've experienced in my whole life.So many surprises and experiments,so many crowdpleasers where I am proudly on that bandwagon,a couple of Oscar contenders that I actually enjoyed. And there's no shortage of music, television,or literature from this year amusing me in some way or another as well so let's dig in...

• Comedic songwriter/teleplay writer/critical writer extraordinaire Demi Adeyugibe has blessed us with not one but TWO funny "fake"credit songs for the nerdiest tentpoles of the summer: Future imitation"Snap"forAvengers: Infinity Warand the compulsively catchy Childish Gambino imitation in"L-A-N-D-O"forSolo: A Star Wars Story.

• Tom Cruise trying to figure out where the "payload"is at and finding a giant switch saying "payload"in the helicopter chase climax ofMission: Impossible - Fallout...
