Great Moments in Horror Actressing: Margot Kidder

"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

Learning iMovie and Making Lists with Chris

Chrishere with some more listy goodness that Nathaniel wanted me to pass along: my own! This year rather than going the normal listicle route for my Best Of,I tought myself iMovie to make a video montage as both a love letter to the cinematic year and present my Top 20.Consider this aSoundtrackingside quest, because I lean hard into my song choices. One thing I learned from teaching myself something new (aside from the technological mishaps - but hey, staring at films you love sure does ease all frustrations),is how to find similar narrative threads in the movies that move us,which I was able to do through song choices shared over multiple films.

Consider this a small peek into my ballot (which is in fullhere) for next month's Team Experience Awards,or hopefully just a quick way to bask in the past movie year as it comes to a close. We all love a montage, but I hope you love this one too!(NSFWfor language)

Chris Gives Thanks!!

Team Experience members were invited to give thanks this week so you'll be hearing from a few of us.Here'sChris Feil...

Thank you love, thank you life, thank you faithful Film Experience readers!

2018 has been a busy year for yours truly!Between being TFE'sresident soundtrack obsessive, starting apodcast, and having another go at TIFF,it's nice to indulge in a little bit of reflection on what this year has meant to me cinematically. As always,I'm grateful to our benevolent host Nathaniel for allowing me to share my voice with you all and my fellow genius cowriters here at TFE.In a terrifying world, our little corner of the internet is a salve. But as for the movies,I am most thankful for...

• "[staccato piano keys] ...I'm alone in my HOUSE!"

• Nicholas Britell's majesticIf Beale Street Could Talkscore. The rare beast that feels inextricable from its images, forever tied together in my brain.

• Janelle Monáe'sDirty Computerin general, but specifically "Pynk"in particular.Listen,if folks are allowed to put Twin Peaks on their best films of the century lists,I can put a music video in mine...

Middleburg Farewell: Nicholas Brittel,Greta Gerwig, and "American Crime Story"

Day 1(Darkest Hour),Day 2(James Ivory,Mudbound,A Fantastic Woman) in case you missed them,Day 3(Last Flag Flying)

Ann Hornaday and Greta Gerwig talk after a screening of Lady src

The last moments of Middleburg were a blissful blur that it's taken me a week to recover from. Before I left the splendor of the country at this under-the-radar festival in Virginia,I managed to attend three more events.

Lady Bird
I caught some ofLady Birdagain (one viewing isdefinitelynot enough).Just enough to give me that rush of pre-college feels again before meeting one-on-one with Greta Gerwig. We'll share that interview next week asLady Birdbegins its theatrical release.Gerwig is such a singular actress that we don't want her to give that up (please never leave our screens!) but it's a joy to know that she writes and directs just as beautifully.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
Since Middleburg largely takes place at a single resort, there are several panels and discussions in their coziest event space. The last on the menu was a discussion about the forthcoming miniseriesThe Assassination of Gianni Versace:American Crime Storywhich is the second season of that anthology series which began with the Emmy-winningThe People Vs Oj Simpson...
