Great Moments in Horror Actressing: Margot Kidder

"This genre gives actresses some really juicy lines and roles, but denies them the acclaim that comes from more 'serious' roles.Kidder was a gifted actress who was indelible in a few films."-Lady Edith

Emmy Ballots Due: Which old fav would you sacrifice for a newbie?

Emmy nomination balloting ends today for the 68th annual Emmy Awards.Cross your fingers that we actually get a few shakeups this year.Yes,cross your fingerseven if you love all 10 of the shows that are normally swimming in nominations. Why?Well, the Emmys really should reflect how competitive television is and not suggest that there haveonlybeen 10ish good shows on the air for the past half decade plus.

Comment Party! On that note please do tell us in the comments which 3 of your old favorites that you still love you'd be willing to sacrifice for 3 who have not been recognized.Make your Sophie's Choice in the comments and let us all pray that Emmy voters do the same.Nobody deserves 5+ nominations for the same thing when that means someone else can't even get ONE for something arguably just as good! The catch is that you can't ditch someone youdon'tlove or think is unworthy who is always nominated.I'll go first as truly painful as this is:

I'd be willing to trade Michelle Dockery onDownton Abbey(who I totally think is the MVP of that entire series (if you blend all seasons together - otherwise there are different MVPs each year as there are for most quality shows) for Shiri Appleby's deep-digging as ambitious self-destructive Rachel onUnReal;Hell,I'd even be willing to trade Taraji P Henson (my preferred winner last year forEmpire) if it meant I could haveEva Green's genre genius inPenny Dreadfulin the mix (my winner this year).I'd even be willing to trade my beloved Titus Burggess onUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt(who I thought should have easily stormed to the win last year) if we could give a chance to another delusional show-stealer like Jamie Cavill inJane the Virgin(who should have been Titus' main competition last year) or another outspoken gay like Noah Galvin fromThe Real O'Nealsboth because he's brilliant on his show and to stick it to ABC for even threatening to cancel that gem.(Yes,I know they think Noah is entitled and 'difficult' and yadda yadda yaddabutthey would never think of threatening and publicly humiliatinga straight actor who was the MVP of a similarly acclaimed show.)

I expect zero nominations for THE REAL O'NEALS but I legit think it deserves multiple nods

The point is that many previously nominated shows and people are still deserving but it makes so much more sense to spread the wealth each year.If you don't spread the wealth it sends two messages ...1) That you're not paying attention to what's eligible or even what happened on your favorite show that year and merely voting based on loyalty to your "favorites"and...2) That TV's 'golden age' is really just a clever PR campaign for 10 shows and history won't mark it as anything particularly special.

Must Read Noah Galvin Interview

If you haven't yet readVulture's interview with Noah Galvindo that immediately.

The Real O'Nealsstar is candid, cocky, and catty.Though the big 3 networks have a tough time making headway in Emmy categories these days, that show would be a wonderful addition to the comedy lineups in several categories.Though Noah is the lead he's campaigning as supporting actor and he 1000% deserves a nod for his clever, heartfelt, nuanced but hilarious work as out gay teen Kenny O'Neal dealing with his Irish Catholic family and new confidence.

Still,I'm guessing Noah Galvin's scorched earth interview style, talking Hollywood's closeted gays for filth (yas queen!) and trashing Bryan Singer,Colton Haynes,Modern Familyetcetera...is not going to win him much favor in Tinsel Town though we're totally for it here at TFE.Hollywood needs to get woke on so many levels but especially in regards to ethnic and sexual diversity, both of which they're hopelessly behind with.

Here's an excerpt:

Are you trying to get me to throw somebody under the bus right now?Because I've thrown Eric Stonestreet under the bus a solid seven times this week. No,I think as wonderful of an actor as Eric Stonestreet is — I've never met him,I assume he's a wonderful guy — he's playing a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype of stereotype onModern Family. And he's a straight man in real life. And as hilarious as that character is,there's a lack of authenticity.I think people — especially young gay kids — they can laugh at it,and they can see it as a source of comedy, but like, nothing more than that. And I want Kenny to be more than the funny gay kid.

UPDATE: Noah Galvin has retracted his comment on Bryan Singer andissued an apologyto those he offended with the interview saying:

I am new to this and will certainly commit to being more thoughtful and wiser as I navigate all of this moving forward.

Links: The Beguiled,Real O'Neals,Celebrity Politics,and More

Let's try to cover everything we haven't mentioned lately (whew). The biggest and most obvious is that Sofia Coppola, whose plans to follow up Bling Ring with a live actionLittle Mermaidare no more,is now supposedly working on a remake of the Clint Eastwood romantic dramaThe Beguiled(1971).The film will star two darlings of TFE Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst.Plus Elle Fanning so Coppola already sold all the tickets to our crowd. The Clint role is as yet uncast. They're said to be looking for a 'Chris Pratt' type but what this surely calls for is a watch of the original film to familiarize ourselves.

Let's do it together shall we?It'savailable on AmazonandiTunesso let's all watch it by April 8th or so and we'll discuss.Deal?
